My name is Hannah Schneider. I am a sophomore at the University of Minnesota majoring in Applied Plant Science and Agricultural Education. I have always been interested in agriculture and grew up on a hobby farm just south of Cologne, Minnesota.

I plan on obtaining my undergraduate degree in Agricultural Education and Applied Plant Science in the spring of 2011. My interest in agriculture has been shaped by many experiences. This past summer I had the privilege of working Mid-County Coop as a summer agronomy intern. Working for Mid-County really opened my eyes to all the opportunities agriculture has to offer and really sparked my interest in agronomy. I really enjoyed learning more about agriculture and the knowledge I gained this past summer about weed identification and plant diseases has really been beneficial in many of my courses at the University of Minnesota.

It is my career goal that I will be able to use technology, diplomacy, communication, and knowledge to work against hunger and for the development of a stronger, more sustainable agriculture industry. This goal could lead me in many directions and I look forward to the challenge of working in the great and ever-evolving field of agriculture. My greatest desire is to never stop in my pursuit of knowledge; I want a career that advocates me to question, uncover answers, and truly learn everyday.

COLOGNE, Minn. — Mid-County Agronomy is proud to welcome Renee Schlueter as its new accounting assistant, a recently created part-time position. Schlueter, who started work at the end of December 2008, said her duties, which include administrative work, accounting, and bookkeeping, are still being defined. “We’re going to build the job as we go,” she said.

“Right now, we’re trying to get things organized,” she said, as the agronomy department prepares for spring. “Spring and fall are the busy seasons.” Part of Schlueter’s work will include providing thorough, timely, and accurate billing and record-keeping services to Mid-County Agronomy customers.

In addition to her duties at Mid-County, Schlueter and her husband, Mark, who live on 80-acres near Cologne, operate their own land rent and boat storage business. “I do all the accounting for that, too,” she said.

For Schlueter, accounting is a natural fit. “I’m accurate, and I like doing it,” she said.
While growing up in Redwood Falls, Schlueter said she “just loved numbers and math.”

After high school, Schlueter attended Willmar Technical College, where she earned an associate’s degree in accounting. She then spent 13 years working in the accounting department of SUPERVALU corporate headquarters in Eden Prairie. During that time, she also attended night classes at Crown College in St. Bonifacius, where she received a bachelor’s degree in business management and accounting.

Schlueter enjoys working with numbers, but in her free time she relaxes by fishing and boating with her husband. “I like being outdoors in the summer,” she said. “We usually rent a cabin.”

Canning and gardening are two more of Schlueter’s favorite hobbies. “In the winter, I do a lot of cooking,” she said. “My favorite thing to make is lasagna.”

At Mid-County Agronomy, Schlueter is excited to serve the agricultural industry in her area. “I enjoy working with the people here,” she said. “I’ve always wanted to work closer to home. I’d like to serve my community.”
